The Belfast Operatic CompanyColin began his musical education at an early age whilst at Harding Memorial Primary School. He was taught Tenor horn by John Millen and attended the Belfast School of Music's Early Music Centre under the supervision of Jena Savage.

Whilst at secondary school he was fortunate to fall under the tutelage of Jacqui Vance nee Kerrigan, an expert repetiteur and Musical Director. It was under her influence and direction hat Colin first started to think about pursuing a career in professional music.

He continued to attend the Belfast School of Music where in his last year he was awarded the Ruth and Lionard Pugh Award for scoring three consecutive grade eight ABRSM distinctions in Piano, Tenor Horn and Tenor Trombone.

He was auditioned and accepted to train at Trinity College of Music in London where he studied Trombone under the direction of Roger Brenner ( Principal English National Opera) and Voice with Lena Phillips (Welsh national Opera). It was at College whilst studying a module in conducting with Peter Stark that Colin became interested in musical direction.

Throughout his time at college Colin worked extensively as a performer both on and off the professional circuit. He was principal Trombone of the award winning Paddington Brass Ensemble and toured extensively with All Souls Symphony Orchestra on their sell out Tours.

Colin also became highly involved in early music and was regularly used as bass trumpet at Spittlefield's Opera House.

On returning to Belfast his interests have focused largely on choral music. He is an Organist and highly involved in sacred church music.

In 2003 he joined Belfast Operatic Company as a bass singer and in 2007 was appointed Concert Musical Director leading to the position of Musical Director in 2008.

He feels his vast array of musical training has helped him greatly as an MD and is delighted to be conducting Belfast Operatic Company.
